Wayne County Hosts Annual Bike Through the Lights Event

By: Rachel Leggett

For those of you itching for one last bike tour before the snow hits, Wayne County is the place to be.

Wayne County Parks is giving cyclists the chance to bike through the lights of Merriman Hollow Park before its annual Lightfest opens to the public. Take in the holiday spectacle as you ride the out-and-back 16K course on Wednesday, November 14 at 7 p.m. Registration is $20 through November 13 and $25 on the day of the event, or $12 for high school-aged participants and younger. The first 300 registrants get a long-sleeve T-shirt and best of all, the proceeds benefit Friends of Wayne County Parks. Post-race food is included, as well. There will be a prize for the best-decorated bike, so make sure to deck out your ride with festive cheer!

For more information and to register for what is sure to be a breathtaking event, check out the entry form. Registration is also available on site the day of the race.

  1. Thank you so much for posting! I had NO idea about this (not even about lightest) and it sounds so much fun! Is it for all bikes or do you need a MTB?

    • Glad you liked it! I would think that all bikes would be okay for the event, but I’m not certain. Definitely worth getting in touch with the race directors, though. Are you going to sign up?

      • I really wanted to, but I wont be able to make it in time thanks to work! Too bad, maybe next year! Good to know that any bikes work! Hopefully I can plan ahead next time and get off early or something. have fun! I’m definitely jealous!

I’ve done this for several years now; all kinds of bike types are out from street to MTB to tandem. It’s a pretty fun event and usually there is a HUGE bonfire at the start/finish location.
